A bit about me
I’ve been an artist for over 50 years, with 26 of those spent using my art professionally for a full time living. Before that, I taught everything from food safety to computing—so when I say I know how to teach, I mean it. These days, I use that experience to teach what I really love: art.
My classes are designed to help adults who are new to drawing and painting (or who haven’t picked up a pencil since school) build real skills and confidence. They are also suitable for improvers, those who have some painting or drawing experience but are feeling frustrated with lack of progress and feeling the need for fresh input.
You’ll learn how to see like an artist and get what you see down on paper or canvas—yes, you really can. This isn’t just a “have-a-go” art group, it's proper lessons. It’s structured learning… but still fun, I promise.
Classes are kept small so everyone gets the help they need.
Want to see what I’m about before committing? Head over to my YouTube channel. You’ll find videos packed with tips, straight talk and real instruction—great as a supplement to my in-person classes, but no substitute for the real thing. Nothing beats personalised feedback.
Who are the classes for?
Beginners and improvers.
Adults who’ve never painted or who want to get back into it.
Those who’ve done a bit of art and want to push it further or learn a new medium.
What will we use?
We’ll mostly work in graphite, coloured pencil and acrylic.
Are materials provided?
No. You'll need your own kit but I will help you know where you can buy things inexpensively and where you need to spend a little extra to get the right results. My YouTube has a great video on what you need for painting with acrylics.
What will we cover?
Each session includes some art theory—things like composition, perspective, value and how to truly see like an artist—plus practice with real materials. We tackle landscapes, seascapes, animals, people, flowers and still life.
What’s the format?
2-hour sessions weekly during term time.
Includes a short intro, demo or presentation, then time to practise with expert guidance throughout.
Supportive, nurturing atmosphere so your confidence and skill grow each week.

FAQs
Can I bring a friend?
Yes—as long as they’re a paying student and there’s space available.
Can I bring my child?
Sorry, no. The classes are adult-focused and not set up for children.
What if I miss a session?
You’ll get the notes and extra help next time. Refunds aren’t given for missed sessions so do be sure you can attend before booking.
What if YOU cancel?
If I ever need to cancel and can't provide a suitable alternative date, you’ll get a refund for that session.
How do I book the next block?
I offer spaces to current students first, then to the waiting list and finally to new students if there’s still room.
How do I pay?
Once your space is confirmed, I take payment in person (cash or card) or send you an online invoice. Payment secures your place.
Can I join mid-term?
This can be difficult and it depends what we are working on at the time. Feel free to ask though.
Do you run sessions in school holidays?
At the moment it's term time only but we are considering a Summer social event in the main school holidays.
Can I switch groups?
In theory, if there’s space. Just note that sessions might not be synced so in practise it's difficult.
Do you teach kids?
Not right now. I might consider 14+ if there’s demand and I update my DBS.
Do you offer private lessons?
Yes, for adults. Private tutoring is charged at £50 per hour, with a minimum of 2 hours, plus any venue costs and travel expenses. It’s subject to availability and has to fit around my art and class commitments.
If you're not local, struggle with a busy schedule or prefer learning from home, I also offer online one-to-one coaching, delivered via video call. You’ll get a full 1 hour of tailored advice and feedback on YOUR work, and we can focus on whatever you're struggling with—whether it’s blending, composition, colour mixing or anything else. It’s just as practical and down-to-earth as my in-person sessions.
Please message for availability and to chat about what you'd like help with.
