"Golden Spray, Church Quay, Bryher, Isles of Scilly" by Wendy Brown

If you’ve ever visited the Isles of Scilly, you’ll know the magic of arriving at one of its tiny quays — sunlight on the water, gulls wheeling overhead, and colourful boats ferrying islanders and visitors alike.

This painting shows Golden Spray, a well-known passenger boat approaching Church Quay on Bryher. It’s a personal piece for me — my own brother once crewed on this very boat, taking tourists and locals on excursions around the stunning archipelago. I’ve tried to capture not just the scene but the feeling of those bright island mornings, full of promise and adventure.
